When I spent a day in Venice, Italy with my friends, we took a train from Udine which ended in Venice at its terminus of the Stazione di Venezia Santa Lucia, or the St. Lucia station, in what is known as Cannaregio. This is a tourist nightmare, and even though we were tourists, I hate being part of such a blatant mixture such as this. So, we quickly hopped onto a gondola, which ferried us around much of the city until we came around the “back,” where we’d get off at Piazza San Marco (St. Mark’s Square). The view was amazing, and the sun was just starting to drop below the horizon (it was wintertime); we passed many beautiful buildings positioned regally along the shores of Venice:
