Matsalu Laht, or Matsalu Bay (English), is a bay on Estonia’s western coast that feeds into the Baltic Sea. The Laht is a big part of the Matsalu National Park, a famous nature reserve located in Estonia’s Lääne County.
The Matsalu Bay is one of Europe’s most important wetland bird areas. The East Atlantic Flyway, which is a heavily-trafficked migratory route for birds, has kept the Matsalu Bay as a primary staging area for over 2 million migrating waterfowl each spring, 1.6 million which are long-tailed ducks.
